Understanding Tile Bond Consumption Variables

One of the most common questions contractors and homeowners face during construction is estimating the number of 20kg tile bond bags required for a project. Ordering too few bags causes site delays, while overordering leads to material waste.

Tile bond consumption is primarily governed by four factors:

1. Trowel Notch Size: Square-notched trowels (6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm) deposit specific ridges of mortar. Larger notch sizes leave thicker adhesive beds, increasing bag consumption.
