Time Tile Bond is water-resistant once cured — meaning it will not dissolve or lose adhesion when exposed to water. However, tile adhesives are not designed as a waterproofing membrane. For waterproof systems (e.g. bathrooms, wet rooms), apply a dedicated waterproofing membrane before tiling, then use Time Tile Bond as the adhesive and Time Tile Grout to seal the joints.

Yes. Porcelain and vitrified tiles are low-porosity tiles that require an adhesive with high grabbing strength. Time Tile Bond's C2TE polymer formulation provides the enhanced adhesion needed to bond these materials reliably. Always back-butter large format porcelain tiles for 100% contact coverage.

Time Tile Bond covers approximately 4–5 kg per square metre when applied at the correct bed thickness (6–10mm notched trowel). A single 20kg bag covers approximately 4–5 square metres. For large format tiles requiring back-buttering, coverage decreases to approximately 3–4 m² per bag.

Initial set is achieved in 4–6 hours. Light foot traffic is possible after 24 hours. Grouting should be done after 24–48 hours. Full mechanical cure takes 28 days. These times are based on 23°C and 50% relative humidity — hot weather will accelerate setting, cold weather will slow it.

In some cases, yes. The existing tiles must be fully bonded (no hollow tiles), clean, and mechanically keyed by grinding or scarifying the surface. The existing tile surface must be flat. However, we recommend consulting a professional before tiling over existing tiles, as this adds load and may not comply with local building codes.

Traditional cement-sand mortar has poor tensile adhesion (typically 0.1–0.3 N/mm²), long curing time, no flexibility, and shrinks as it dries — causing hollow tiles over time. Time Tile Bond is a polymer-modified adhesive with adhesion of ≥1.0 N/mm², flexibility (accommodates movement), extended open time, and is ready to use simply by adding water. It is the professional, modern alternative to cement.

For bathroom walls, you need an adhesive that can hold tiles vertically (non-slump) and resist moisture. Yes. Time Tile Bond is suitable for natural stone tiles including marble and granite. For light-coloured marble, use the grey formulation with care — very thin marble may show grey shadow. For translucent marble or white stone, consult KKS Traders about a white-pigmented adhesive option. Always back-butter natural stone for full coverage.

Unfortunately, hollow tiles cannot be permanently fixed without removal and re-bonding. Hollow tiles indicate adhesive failure — the tile has debonded from the substrate. The correct solution is to remove the hollow tiles carefully, clean the substrate and tile back, apply fresh Time Tile Bond, and re-set the tiles. Injection grouting is a temporary fix and is not recommended for structural areas.

The four main causes are: (1) Using traditional cement-sand mortar without polymer, which has poor adhesion and shrinks; (2) Insufficient adhesive coverage — less than 80% contact area; (3) Tiling over a poorly prepared, dusty, or oily substrate; (4) Thermal expansion and structural movement not accommodated by a flexible adhesive. Time Tile Bond solves all four problems.

Mix one 20kg bag of Time Tile Bond powder with 6.0–6.5 litres of clean, cool water. Always add powder to water gradually while mixing with a low-speed drill. Do not add more water than specified — excess water reduces adhesion strength significantly.

Yes. Time Tile Bond is engineered for large format tiles (60×60cm, 60×120cm, 80×80cm, and larger). For tiles larger than 40×40cm, always apply adhesive to both the substrate and the back of the tile (back-buttering) to achieve 100% contact coverage and prevent hollow spots.
